WALKER OF THE WEEK
Addendum to last week when I commented that Declan Tingay’s 10km Walker of the Week performance of 42:20.31 was the fastest ever by any Australian walker aged 17. In fact, that title belongs to Nathan Brill who walked a time of 41:07 at the 2014 IAAF World Race Walking Cup in Taicang, some 3 weeks before his 18th birthday. My apologies to Nathan for this oversnight. So I think that makes Declan’s performance the second best ever U18 walk over that distance.
My Walker of the Week this time around goes to 13 year old NSW walker Alannah Pitcher who won the U15 3000m walk at the NSW Junior T&F Championshiops in Sydney last weekend with a time of 14:19.11. While just outside her PB of 14:07.74, it was still a fantastic time. Alannah took all before her nationally last year in the U13/U14 age group category. She started the year with wins in the Australian T&F U14 3000m in March (14:44.41) and in the Australian Little Athletics U13 1500m in April (6:43.92). A good double followed in the LBG Carnival in Canberra in June (1st in the U14 2km with 9:28 and 5th in the U16 3km with 14:39). She then won the U14 3km roadwalk championship in Canberra in August (14:34) and the Australian Schools U14 3000m track championship in Canberra in December (14:50.65). It looks like she is starting 2017 right where she left off – from the front!
